Dear Director,
with the recent scandal of dioxin in chickens and eggs in Germany will be seeking a ritual now recurrent and consistent regarding the food safety (remember the buffalo bells, sheep pugliesi, i suini irlandesi, i polli toscani) e che - proprio per queste sue caratteristiche - rischia di passare come una notizia fra le tante, cui non si dedica l'attenzione che merita.
Col termine diossina si intende la TCDD (2,3,7,8–tetraclorodibenzo-p-diossina), nota come “diossina di Seveso "because the incident occurred at Seveso in 1976, threatening to infinitesimal doses (billionths of a milligram) and has been called the most dangerous substances ever known, similar to this molecule, however, there are hundreds more, with characteristics similar to that we speak broadly of "dioxins". Without going into too much detail I remember that it is very stable molecules and persistent in the environment; man shall be recruited for more than 90% via food, especially by fish, milk, meat, eggs and cheese which accumulate as soluble.
L’esposizione a diossine è correlata allo sviluppo of tumors (for TCDD, lymphomas, sarcomas, liver tumors, breast, lung, colon) and to reproductive disorders, endometriosis, abnormal brain development, diabetes, thyroid disease, lung damage, metabolic, cardiovascular, liver, skin and immune responses. Perhaps not everyone knows that since it is so dangerous substances has been drawn up in 2004 a Stockholm Convention, signed by 120 countries including Italy, to ban the intentional production and impose a reduction of the unintended, unfortunate that our country is was the only one not to have ratified it!
These substances are formed under certain conditions temperature in the presence of chlorine that every combustion process, especially plastics, leading to their training and are not only present but also in the flue ash from incinerators. point out the ennessimo In this regard, very recent study (1), which correlates these substances emitted from incinerators for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The study was conducted in France on 34 lymphoma patients living in the fallout of the incinerator in Besancon and 34 healthy subjects. In all were measured serum levels of these substances found always higher and statistically significant in exposed humans. Moniter pity that in the study, conducted by the Emilia Romagna region to assess the effects of eight incinerators in the area, dioxins have been sought where they accumulate, or at the biological matrices, and even less in the body of persons or the breast milk of mothers exposed, but in the air!
But back to the current scandal, which lends itself to some interesting conclusions.
First of all it is is traced back to the feeding of contaminated industrial oils and other pollutants to the poor animals, but this is likely to obscure the fact that in 2005, http://lescienze.espresso.repubblica.it / articolo/Diossina_nelle_uova_in_Germania/1285257 in the same region affected by the scandal (Lower Saxony), had shown contamination beyond the limits permitted by law, by as much as 28% of chickens are kept outside in that area - so chickens "free range", those who we used to consider the safest because they bred naturally.
remember that Lower Saxony is characterized by the widespread presence of steel mills and incinerators.
This has to do much thinking, because it speaks only of chickens because of contaminated feed and not even those contaminated by exposure to the impact of steel mills, incinerators and other facilities produttori di diossine rischia di non mettere sufficentemente a fuoco le conseguenze che uno "sviluppo" industriale dissennato ha comportato, quasi questo fosse meno colpevole di chi ha deliberatamente nutrito gli animali con mangimi contaminati.
Just today I saw a figure on 01/08/2011 Sole24Ore with data on European agriculture, which shows that Italy is destined to fail even under the agricultural point of view, the primary sector, from which all and other descendants who should represent the excellence in our country known worldwide as the home of good food. From this graph it is clear that the 'trend in agricultural incomes in 2010 compared to 2009: EU +12.3, +54.8 Denmark (for 2050 and has planned the release from fossil fuels), the Netherlands, +32, + 31 France, Germany + 23, + 7 Spain, Italy - 3.3 (with declining support. Farm of 19,200 sq km in the last 10 years), UK -8.2, -4.2 Greece, Romania - 8.2.
All these reflections are meant to once again reaffirm the notion that it is time for change, we must recognize the failure of the current development model of society that clearly does not care about the consequences of their choices, which has come even contaminate the very basis of the food supply also pollute the world's most precious: mother's milk!
Worrying about childhood and of the possibilities of survival of future generations should be at the forefront of the thoughts di una comunità civile.
E per finire una domanda: come saranno i polli allevati all'aperto in area di ricaduta dei nostri inceneritori a Forlì? Perchè a nessuno è mai venuto in mente di indagare?
Cordiali saluti
